Stocks Decline Pre-Bell Ahead of Key Earnings; Asia Churns, Europe Down

07:05 AM EDT, 10/22/2024 (MT Newswires) -- US equity futures were trending lower before the open Tuesday as traders await earnings of several key companies.

Standard & Poor's 500 and the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 0.5% each in premarket activity, while the Nasdaq was off 0.6%. Asian exchanges were mixed to lower, while European bourses were tracking in the red.

GE Aerospace (GE), Danaher ( DHR ) , Philip Morris International ( PM ) , Verizon Communications ( VZ ) , RTX (RTX), Lockheed Martin ( LMT ) , Fiserv ( FI ) , Sherwin-Williams ( SHW ) , 3M ( MMM ) , General Motors ( GM ) and Genuine Parts ( GPC ) report their latest financial results before the bell, among others.

Texas Instruments ( TXN ) posts earnings after markets close.

The US-listed shares of SAP (SAP) rose 3% pre-bell as the German enterprise software company reported its latest quarterly results. Nucor ( NUE ) fell 3.3% as the steel production company said it anticipates a sequential decrease in its fourth-quarter profit. Nvidia ( NVDA ) edged down 0.4%.

On Tuesday's thin economic calendar, the Richmond Fed Manufacturing Index for October is out at 10 am ET. Philadelphia Fed President Patrick Harker is scheduled to speak at 10 am.

Before the opening bell, bitcoin decreased 0.8% to $67,117, West Texas Intermediate crude oil gained 0.9% to $71.22 a barrel, yields on 10-year Treasuries advanced 2.6 basis points to 4.21% and gold inclined 0.5% to $2,752 an ounce.
