Standard & Poor's 500 declined 0.3%, the Dow Jones Industrial Average decreased 0.2% and the Nasdaq was off 0.5% in the premarket. Asian exchanges were mixed to lower while European bourses were trending downwards midday on the continent.
Tesla (TSLA), Coca-Cola (KO), T-Mobile US ( TMUS ) , International Business Machines ( IBM ) , GE Aerospace (GE), Danaher ( DHR ) , Philip Morris International ( PM ) , Verizon Communications ( VZ ) , AT&T ( T ) , Lockheed Martin ( LMT ) , Boeing ( BA ) , Honeywell International ( HON ) , United Parcel Service ( UPS ) and Southwest Airlines ( LUV ) are some of the major companies reporting their latest financial results this week.
Nucor ( NUE ) , W.R. Berkley (WRB) and Logitech International ( LOGI ) post earnings after the markets close on Monday.
Boeing's ( BA ) stock gained 3.4% pre-bell after the troubled plane maker reached a tentative labor deal with the striking International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers union. Spirit Airlines ( SAVE ) surged 44% as the carrier secured a debt-refinancing extension to late December.
Monday's thin economic calendar has the leading indicators index for September at 10 am ET.
Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco President Mary Daly spoke at 6:40 am, while Dallas Fed President Lorie Logan is scheduled to speak at 8:55 am. Minneapolis Fed President Neel Kashkari is set to speak at 1 pm, while Kansas City Fed President Jeffrey Schmid speaks at 5:05 pm.
Before the open, bitcoin ticked down 0.3% to $68,297, West Texas Intermediate crude oil increased 2.1% to $70.67 a barrel, 10-year US Treasuries advanced 5.3 basis points to 4.13% and gold rose 0.6% to $2,745 an ounce.
