Stocks Fall Pre-Bell Ahead of Latest PPI Report, Bank Earnings; Asia Mixed, Europe Down

07:11 AM EDT, 10/11/2024 (MT Newswires) -- US equity futures were tracking in the red before the open Friday as traders await the latest report on producer prices and earnings from two of Wall Street's largest banks.

Standard & Poor's 500 and the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 0.2% each in premarket activity, while the Nasdaq was off 0.3%. Asian exchanges were mixed to lower, while the majority of European bourses were trending downwards midday on the continent.

September's PPI report, a measure for wholesale prices, is scheduled to be released at 8:30 am ET. The data comes a day after the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported consumer inflation rose more than expected last month.

Also on Friday's economic calendar, the preliminary University of Michigan consumer sentiment report for October is out at 10 am, followed by the weekly Baker Hughes domestic oil-and-gas rig count at 1 pm.

Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago President Austan Goolsbee is scheduled to speak at 9:45 am. Federal Reserve Governor Michelle Bowman speaks at 1:10 pm.

JPMorgan Chase ( JPM ) and Wells Fargo ( WFC ) are set to report their latest quarterly results before the bell, along with BlackRock (BLK), Bank of New York Mellon ( BK ) and Fastenal ( FAST ) .

Shares of Tesla (TSLA) dropped 6.2% pre-bell after the auto manufacturer unveiled its highly anticipated robotaxi vehicle. Uber Technologies ( UBER ) spiked 5.1%. CrowdStrike ( CRWD ) gained 0.7% and Advanced Micro Devices ( AMD ) was up 0.6%.

Before the opening bell, bitcoin advanced 2.4% to $61,008, West Texas Intermediate crude oil decreased 0.6% to $75.38 per barrel, yields on 10-year Treasuries inched 0.2 basis points higher to nearly 4.1% and gold inclined 0.7% to $2,657 an ounce.
