Stocks Gain Pre-Bell as Investors Await Key Inflation Data
Aug 11, 2025 4:35 AM

07:23 AM EDT, 08/11/2025 (MT Newswires) -- The benchmark US stock measures were trending upwards before Monday's opening bell as investors brace for key inflation data scheduled to be released later in the week.

The S&P 500 and the Nasdaq edged up 0.1% each in premarket activity, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.2%. The indexes finished Friday's trading session in the green, with the Nasdaq logging gains for the third day in a row and notching a new closing high.

With no economic reports scheduled for Monday, traders' focus will be on the consumer price index report for July on Tuesday, followed by the producer price index and retail sales reports, for the same month, on Thursday and Friday, respectively.

Last month, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported consumer inflation in the world's largest economy accelerated in June at the fastest pace since January, with analysts saying there were signs pointing to tariffs driving prices higher.

Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis President Alberto Musalem reportedly said Friday that inflation is still a bigger concern for the US central bank than the labor market.

US Treasury yields were down in premarket action, with the two-year rate retreating 0.6 basis points to 3.75%, while the 10-year rate declined by 1.9 basis points to 4.26%.

Shares of Nvidia ( NVDA ) and Advanced Micro Devices ( AMD ) slipped 0.8% and 2%, respectively, pre-bell as the companies agreed to give 15% of revenue from sales of their advanced artificial intelligence chips in China to the US government, as part of a deal to get export licenses, according to multiple media reports.

C3.ai ( AI ) tumbled 28% as the company reported late Friday preliminary fiscal first-quarter results below market expectations. Rumble (RUM) climbed 17% as the video-sharing platform reported a smaller second-quarter net loss versus the year before and disclosed its intention to acquire German artificial intelligence company Northern Data.

Franco-Nevada ( FNV ) , monday.com ( MNDY ) , Roivant Sciences ( ROIV ) , Legend Biotech ( LEGN ) , United States Cellular (USM) and Telephone and Data Systems ( TDS/PV ) report their latest financial results before the bell, among others. Oklo ( OKLO ) posts earnings after the markets close.

West Texas Intermediate crude oil nudged up 0.1% to $63.96 a barrel before the open. Gold dropped 2.1% to $3,418 per troy ounce, while bitcoin inclined 2.1% to $121,159.
