Stocks Mostly Down Pre-Bell Ahead of Key Earnings; Asia Churns, Europe Falls

06:52 AM EDT, 10/15/2024 (MT Newswires) -- US equity futures were mostly pointing lower before the opening bell Tuesday as traders await the latest financial results of several major companies.

Standard & Poor's 500 declined 0.1% and the Nasdaq was off 0.2% in premarket activity, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average was slightly in the green. Asian exchanges were mixed to lower while the majority of European bourses were tracking in the red.

UnitedHealth ( UNH ) , Johnson & Johnson ( JNJ ) , Bank of America ( BAC ) , Goldman Sachs ( GS ) , Citigroup ( C ) , PNC Financial Services (PNC), State Street (STT), Albertsons ( ACI ) and Walgreens Boots Alliance ( WBA ) report earnings before the bell, among others. United Airlines (UAL), Omnicom ( OMC ) and J.B. Hunt Transport Services (JBHT) are scheduled to release their results after the markets close.

Tuesday's thin economic calendar has the Empire State Manufacturing Index for October at 8:30 am ET.

Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco President Mary Daly is set to speak at 11:30 am, while Federal Reserve Governor Adriana Kugler speaks at 1:05 pm. Atlanta Fed President Raphael Bostic is slated to speak at 7 pm.

Shares of Trump Media & Technology ( DJT ) jumped 9.2% pre-bell as the company launched its Truth+ TV streaming service. Nvidia ( NVDA ) decreased 1.3% after closing Monday's session up 2.4%. Ericsson's (ERIC) US-listed stock advanced 9.7% after the company posted its latest quarterly results.

Before the opening bell, bitcoin fell 0.5% to $65,655, West Texas Intermediate crude oil dropped 4.9% to $70.18 a barrel, yields on 10-year Treasuries retreated 0.8 basis points to 4.07% and gold inclined 0.2% to $2,672 an ounce.
