Stocks Nudge Lower Pre-Bell as Traders Digest Waning Earnings Season; Asia, Europe Down
May 21, 2024 4:10 AM

06:52 AM EDT, 05/21/2024 (MT Newswires) -- US equity futures were slightly in the red before the opening bell Tuesday as traders digest the waning earnings season.

Standard & Poor's 500 futures and the Dow Jones Industrial Average edged down each in the premarket, while the Nasdaq was off 0.1%. Asian and European exchanges were pointing lower.

Palo Alto Networks' ( PANW ) shares fell 7.6% pre-bell after the cybersecurity company tightened its fiscal 2024 bookings outlook. Zoom Video Communications ( ZM ) slipped 1.7% as the video platform provider issued a slightly downbeat earnings outlook for the ongoing fiscal second quarter. Keysight Technologies ( KEYS ) dropped 4.2% as the company's fiscal third-quarter guidance fell short of market estimates.

Lowe's (LOW), AutoZone ( AZO ) , Full Truck Alliance ( YMM ) , XPeng ( XPEV ) and Macy's (M) report their latest financial results before the bell, among others. Toll Brothers (TOL) and Urban Outfitters (URBN) post quarterly earnings in the afterhours.

With no economic reports scheduled for Tuesday's calendar, investors will look for clues on future Federal Reserve policy moves in the speeches of some central bank officials. Fed Governor Christopher Waller and Richmond Fed President Thomas Barkin are both set to speak at 9 am ET, while New York Fed President John Williams speaks at 9:05 am.

Atlanta Fed President Raphael Bostic is scheduled to speak at 9:10 am and later at 7 pm. Fed Vice Chair of Supervision Michael Barr speaks at 11:45 am.

Before the open, bitcoin advanced 2.1% to $71,072, West Texas Intermediate crude decreased 1.3% to $78.73 a barrel, yields on 10-year Treasuries dipped 1.1 basis points to 4.43% and gold declined 0.8% to $2,420 an ounce.
