Stocks Rise Pre-Bell Ahead of Final Trading Session of 2024; Asia Falls, Europe Gains

07:02 AM EST, 12/31/2024 (MT Newswires) -- US benchmark equities were tracking in the green before the opening bell Tuesday as traders prepare for the last trading session of the year.

Standard & Poor's 500 increased 0.3%, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.2% and the Nasdaq inclined 0.4% in premarket activity. The majority of Asian exchanges were pointing lower while most European bourses were trending upwards midday on the continent.

US markets will be closed on Wednesday for New Year's Day, reopening on Thursday.

On the economic calendar, the Case-Shiller Home Price Index and the Federal Housing Finance Agency House Price Index, both for October, post at 9 am ET. The farm prices report for November is out at 3 pm.

Shares of MicroStrategy ( MSTR ) rebounded 3.7% pre-bell after closing the previous session down 8.2%. Nxu (NXU) surged 45% after the company filed a secondary offering of up to 114.5 million shares. Energous ( WATT ) shares fell 44%.

Before the opening bell, bitcoin declined 0.4% at $94,058, West Texas Intermediate crude oil gained 0.8% to $71.55 a barrel, yields on 10-year Treasuries retreated 2.2 basis points to 4.52% and gold moved 0.2% higher to $2,623 an ounce.
