Tech Caution Dents Wall Street Pre-Bell; Asia, Europe Down

07:14 AM EDT, 07/24/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Wall Street futures pointed moderately lower pre-bell Wednesday after underwhelming earnings reports on Tuesday from Alphabet (GOOG, GOOGL) and Tesla (TSLA) blunted confidence in tech issues.

In the futures, the S&P 500 fell 0.7%, the Nasdaq declined 1% and the Dow Jones was off 0.4%.

Thermo Fisher Scientific (TMO) traded off 0.4% pre-bell after reporting quarterly earnings and revenue marginally above expectations in premarket hours.

Asian exchanges traded lower overnight on a stronger yen and concerns regarding China's economic growth. European bourses tracked moderately south midday on the continent.

On the economic calendar is the S&P PMI composite flash report for July at 9:45 am ET, followed by new home sales June report at 10 am.

The weekly EIA petroleum status report posts at 10:30 am, followed by the Atlanta Fed Survey of Business Uncertainty bulletin for July at 11 am.

In premarket action, Bitcoin traded at $66,483, West Texas Intermediate crude oil traded higher at $77.59, and 10-year US Treasuries offered 4.25%. Spot gold traded for $2,414 an ounce.
