Trading volume stood at over 27.6 million shares, compared with a daily average of about 11.2 million.

Freeport-McMoRan ( FCX ) shares were down 15% after the firm said it is notifying commercial counterparties of a force majeure due to the recent mud rush incident at its Grasberg Block Cave mine in Indonesia, which led to the deaths of at least two people.

Trading volume stood at more than 55.1 million shares, against a daily average of roughly 14.8 million.
