11:54 AM EST, 01/08/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up, the S&P 500 was roughly flat, and the Nasdaq Composite was down in late-morning trading Thursday, as investors moved out of tech stocks.

In company news, Nvidia ( NVDA ) could get Chinese approval for some imports of its H200 artificial intelligence chips as soon as this quarter, Bloomberg reported Thursday, citing people familiar with the situation. The chip will be barred from China's military, sensitive government agencies, critical infrastructure, and state-owned enterprises amid security worries, according to the report, citing the sources. Additionally, Nvidia ( NVDA ) is demanding full upfront payment from Chinese customers looking to buy its H200 AI chips, Reuters reported Thursday, citing two people briefed on the matter. Nvidia ( NVDA ) shares were down 2.2% around midday.

Shares of defense contractors surged after President Donald Trump said late Wednesday on Truth Social called for a 50% increase in the US military budget. Shares of Lockheed Martin ( LMT ) , Northrop Grumman ( NOC ) and RTX (RTX) were up 5.0%, 3.5% and 1.6%, respectively. Shares of Boeing ( BA ) and General Dynamics ( GD ) were up 0.3% and 3.6%, respectively.

Paramount Skydance ( PSKY ) said Thursday its $30-per-share offer for Warner Bros. Discovery ( WBD ) is superior to the company's existing agreement with Netflix ( NFLX ) . Paramount said it has addressed each concern raised by WBD, including an irrevocable personal guarantee by Larry Ellison for the equity portion of the financing. Paramount shares were up 0.4%, while Warner Bros. shares were down 0.8% and Netflix ( NFLX ) shares were down 1.2%.

AbbVie ( ABBV ) said in a regulatory filing Wednesday that it expects an impact on Q4 adjusted earnings per share due to charges related to acquired in-process research and development. The company reported a $1.3 billion pre-tax charge. For Q4, AbbVie ( ABBV ) expects adjusted diluted EPS of $2.61 to $2.65, down from its previous guidance of $3.32 to $3.36 and below the FactSet consensus analyst estimate of $3.32. For 2025, the company expects adjusted diluted EPS of $9.90 to $9.94, down from its previous guidance of $10.61 to $10.65 and below the FactSet consensus of $10.61. AbbVie ( ABBV ) shares were down 2.7%.

Fiserv ( FISV ) has announced a strategic collaboration with Microsoft ( MSFT ) to expand AI use across its platforms and workforce. Fiserv ( FISV ) will roll out Microsoft ( MSFT ) 365 Copilot company-wide to support employees with AI-powered tools. Fiserv ( FISV ) shares were up 1.1%, while shares of Microsoft ( MSFT ) were down 1.2%.

CrowdStrike ( CRWD ) said Thursday it has agreed to acquire SGNL, a continuous identity security platform. The deal is valued at almost $740 million, according to a CNBC report. CrowdStrike ( CRWD ) shares were down 2.9%.
