UK Stocks-Factors to watch on July 9
Jul 8, 2026 10:34 PM

July 9 (Reuters) - Britain's FTSE 100 index is seen opening up on Thursday, with futures up 0.4%.

* THAMES WATER: Creditors seeking to take control of Thames Water are preparing to provide fresh financial backing to the debt-laden utility, Sky News reported.

* GSK: Alector ( ALEC ) said that GSK had terminated their neuroscience collaboration agreement covering two experimental antibody drugs after both the drug candidates suffered clinical setbacks.

* DCC: The UK Takeover Panel further extended, until July 15, the deadline for a consortium of KKR and Energy Capital Partners to make a firm offer for DCC.

* PAY: British pay settlements held steady in the three months to May, a survey showed, signalling persistent wage pressures closely watched by the Bank of England.

* HOUSEPRICES: The downturn in Britain's housing market abated slightly last month, although sentiment remains fragile and prone to uncertainty, a survey from the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) showed.

* OIL: Oil prices rose over 1% after new U.S. strikes on Iran dimmed hopes for a ceasefire and raised concerns about the full reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.

* GOLD/PRECIOUS: Gold hovered near a one-week low as renewed U.S.-Iran tensions boosted oil prices, stoking inflation concerns and reinforcing expectations of higher interest rates for longer.

* METALS: Copper ticked up in London, recovering some losses as investors assessed the impact of renewed Persian Gulf tensions on the global economy.

* EX-DIVS: Halma will trade without entitlement to its latest dividend pay-out on Thursday.

* UK's FTSE 100 saw its biggest one-day fall since May on Wednesday after U.S. President Donald Trump said an initial agreement to end the war on Iran was over.
