08:15 AM EDT, 04/15/2024 (MT Newswires) -- The broad market exchange-traded fund SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust (SPY) was up 0.5% and the actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) was 0.6% higher in Monday's premarket activity buoyed by the upcoming earnings season.
US stock futures were also higher, with S&P 500 Index futures up 0.6%, Dow Jones Industrial Average futures advancing 0.5%, and Nasdaq futures gaining 0.6% before the start of regular trading.
The March retail sales report and the Empire State Manufacturing Index will be released at 8:30 am ET.
The business inventories report for February and the NAHB Housing Market Index for April will be posted at 10 am ET.
Dallas Federal Reserve President Lorie Logan speaks at 2:30 am, and San Francisco Fed President Mary Daly Speaks at 8 pm.
In premarket action, bitcoin was up by 3.6% and the cryptocurrency fund ProShares Bitcoin Strategy ETF (BITO) was 0.3% higher.

Technology
Technology Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLK) advanced 0.4%, and the iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) was 0.1% higher, while the iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) was inactive. Among semiconductor ETFs, SPDR S&P Semiconductor ETF (XSD) was up 2.2%, while the iShares Semiconductor ETF (SOXX) rose by 1%.
Snap One Holdings ( SNPO ) was up more than 30% in recent Monday premarket activity after Resideo Technologies ( REZI ) said it has agreed to acquire Snap One ( SNPO ) for $10.75 per share in cash, or about $1.4 billion, inclusive of net debt of about $460 million at closing. Resideo ( REZI ) was up 2%.

The Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLP) advanced 0.1%, while the Vanguard Consumer Staples Fund (VDC) was 1.3% higher. The iShares US Consumer Staples ETF (IYK) was flat, and the Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLY) gained 0.4%. The VanEck Retail ETF (RTH) was inactive, while the SPDR S&P Retail ETF (XRT) was inactive.
Phoenix Motor ( PEV ) shares traded up more than 19% pre-bell after the company said it expects Q1 revenue to reach a record $8 million to $9 million, up from $1.8 million a year earlier.
Health Care
The Health Care Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLV) advanced 0.3%. The Vanguard Health Care Index Fund (VHT) gained 0.3% while the iShares US Healthcare ETF (IYH) was inactive. The iShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) was also inactive.
Neumora Therapeutics ( NMRA ) was down more than 13% premarket after the company said that the US Food and Drug Administration placed a clinical hold on the phase 1 trial of its NMRA-266 potential brain disease treatment after the emergence of pre-clinical data showing the drug caused convulsions in rabbits.
Financial
Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLF) advanced by 0.8%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) was up 1.9%, while its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) was 1.8% lower.
The Goldman Sachs Group ( GS ) was up 3.6% pre-bell Monday after the company reported Q1 earnings of $11.58 per diluted share, up from $5.48 a year earlier.
Industrial
Industrial Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLI) advanced 0.4% and the Vanguard Industrials Index Fund (VIS) retreated 0.6%, while the iShares US Industrials ETF (IYJ) was inactive.
Euro Tech Holdings' ( CLWT ) shares were down 2.6% before the opening bell following the company's announcement of a Ballast Water Treatment Systems business partnership formed by its majority-owned subsidiary, PACT, with ERMA FIRST ESK Engineering Solutions in Greece.
Energy
The iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) was inactive, while the Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLE) was up by 0.2%.
Commodities
Front-month US West Texas Intermediate crude oil was down by 0.7% at $85.03 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Natural gas advanced 0.3% to $1.78 per 1 million British Thermal Units. United States Oil Fund (USO) lost 0.6%, while the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) was 0.8% lower.
Gold futures for June advanced marginally by 0.03% to $2,374.70 an ounce on the Comex, and silver futures were up by 0.8% to $28.56 an ounce. SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) gained 0.7%, and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) was 1.8% higher.
