07:10 AM EDT, 08/27/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Amazon.com ( AMZN ) is in talks with the Vietnamese government to deploy its Kuiper initiative to provide broadband internet services from low-Earth orbit satellites, Vietnam's Ministry of Science and Technology said in a statement Tuesday.
Amazon ( AMZN ) has established a local entity named Amazon Kuiper Vietnam and has applied to participate in a controlled pilot program to provide low-Earth orbit satellite telecommunications services to connect up to 600,000 subscribers, the statement noted.
"The Kuiper project is suitable for Vietnam's development needs," said Vietnam's Deputy Minister Pham Duc Long, according to the statement.
According to the statement, Pham Duc Long assigned relevant departments to undertake technical work with representatives of the Kuiper project to submit the pilot dossier to the prime minister in September.
Amazon ( AMZN ) did not immediately respond to an MT Newswires request for comment.
