Novartis, Roche Reportedly Meet With Swiss Government Over US Tariffs
Aug 14, 2025 5:57 AM

08:41 AM EDT, 08/14/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Novartis ( NVS ) and Roche executives met with Swiss government officials to discuss the outlook for the pharmaceutical industry following the imposition of additional 39% tariff on Swiss exports to the US, multiple reports said Thursday.

Swiss Interior Minister Elisabeth Baume-Schneider and Economy Minister Guy Parmelin met Thursday with Roche chairman Severin Schwan and Patrick Horber, president of Novartis' ( NVS ) international unit, the reports said, citing a government statement.

Roche told MT Newswires that the content of the meeting was confidential, but there will be a roundtable discussion with the pharmaceutical industry in September.

Pharmaceuticals are currently exempt from the duties, but US President Donald Trump had said he could announce additional tariffs on the sector, according to Bloomberg.

Novartis ( NVS ) and the Swiss government didn't immediately reply to MT Newswires' request for comment.
