The March IIP reading has been revised further lower to -18.3 percent versus -16.7 percent said earlier.

It is noteworthy that the government releases the factory output and CPI inflation data on the 12th of every month.

However, the government has said that the May CPI combined food price index is at 9.28 percent and risen up 0.1 percent versus the April reading. Vegetable inflation in May has fallen 10.7 percent when compared to April.

The government has reasoned that most of the factories were in a lockdown state due to the COVID-19 forced lockdown.

The CPI for the month of May was seen at 5.65 percent, according to a median of estimates of 10 economists polled by CNBC-TV18.

The poll also forecast India’s industrial output measured by the Index of Industrial Production (IIP) to have contracted by 49.34 percent in April, after a 16.7 percent contraction for the month of March.
