Raising import duty on soybean oil should benefit domestic industry, says Adani Wilmar

After government raised import duty on crude and refined edible oils yesterday, Adani Wilmar on Friday said it should benefit domestic industry in the country.

Speaking to CNBC-TV18, Atul Chaturvedi, director and president of Solvent Extractors Association, said that federation has been asking the government to raise edible oil duty because sunflower, canola and cotton seed oil duties were much lower than soybean oil duties.

Chaturvedi said association was requesting the government that there is no point in differentiating between the soft oil duties of various oils.

“The government has finally accepted our request and has raised all the duties and brought them at par at 35%,” he added.

According to him, duty increase would aid profitability for soybean products.
