Stephen Hawking's possessions up for auction

British Physicist Stephen Hawking's motorised wheelchair, medals, awards and a signed copy of his PhD thesis are set to go under the hammer in UK.

The online auction announced by Christie's features 22 items belonging to Hawking. The motorised BEC mobility wheelchair used by Hawking's from late-1980s to mid-1990s is expected to fetch 15,000 pounds.

The signed photocopy of Hawking's PhD thesis could go for up to 150,000 pounds. Some of the medals and awards in the auction include Eddington medal, The Institute of Physics James Clerk Maxwell medal and Albert Einstein award for achievement in the Natural Sciences.

The auction will be live from October 31 to November 8. The proceeds will go to the Stephen Hawking foundation and the Motor Neurone Disease Association.
