Exchange-Traded Funds, US Equities Lower After Midday

01:11 PM EST, 03/03/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Broad Market Indicators

Broad-market exchange-traded funds IWM and IVV were lower. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) was up 0.2%.

US equity indexes fell, with technology leading the decliners and gold futures surging after midday on Monday.

Energy

iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) lost about 0.3% each.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) was down 1.0%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) were lower.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) was down 0.7%, and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) fell 0.9%.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) rose 0.4%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) climbed 0.5%, and its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) dipped 0.8%.

Commodities

Crude oil lost 0.2%, and the United States Oil Fund (USO) fell 0.5%. Natural gas advanced 5.9%, and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) rose 5.7%.

Gold was up 1.9% on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) gained 1.3%. Silver rose 2.9%, and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) added 2.1%.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) gained 0.8%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) were higher.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) fell 0.7%; retail fund VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) was down 0.2%, while SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) declined 1.2%.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) rose 0.9%, and iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) were higher. IShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) was 0.8% lower.

Industrial

Select Sector SPDR-Industrial (XLI) was down 0.2%, and Vanguard Industrials (VIS) was 0.3% lower while iShares US Industrials (IYJ) advanced 0.2%.
