Indian shares ended lower on Wednesday, weighed down by auto and metal stocks, on investor concerns about a potential coronavirus pandemic.

Here's a quick recap of how top market indices and stocks fared on Wednesday:

Frontline indices

Sensex: The Sensex settled 392 points lower, or 0.97 percent, to close Wednesday's trade at 39,889. So far this year, the 30-share benchmark BSE index has lost 3.3 percent, rising 1,365 points.

Nifty50: The Nifty50 lost 119 points, or 1.01 percent, to settle at 11,678. So far this year, the broader NSE index has lost 490 points or 4.03 percent.

Key stocks

Tata Consultancy Services: The IT major settled 1.63 percent lower, closing at Rs 2,123.05 per share on NSE.

Reliance Industries: The oil-telecom-retail conglomerates' shares ended 1.76 percent lower, quoting at Rs 1,391.40 on NSE.

HDFC Bank: The private sector lenders' shares settled 0.15 percent lower in trade today, quoting at Rs 1,199.65 on NSE.

Hindustan Unilever: The FMCG major's stock closed at Rs 2,240.95 per share, up 0.38 percent at close on NSE.

HDFC: The NBFC stock settled at Rs 2,281.05, ending 0.98 percent lower.

Major sectors

Nifty Bank: The banking gauge settled 0.41 percent lower at 30,306, down 126 points at close. So far this year, Nifty Bank has lost over 5.7 percent.

Nifty IT: The IT index ended 1.39 percent lower to settle at 16,332. So far this year, it has gained over 4.3 percent.

Nifty FMCG: The consumer goods gauge settled 0.69 percent lower at 29,965. So far this year, Nifty FMCG has lost a little over half a percent.

Nifty Auto: The index ended 2.15 percent lower to settle at 7,208. So far this year, it has lost over 12.6 percent.

Nifty Metal: The metal index lost 1.63 percent to settle at 2,430. So far this year, the index has lost more than 13 percent.
