07:34 AM EST, 11/03/2025 (MT Newswires) -- The benchmark US stock measures were tracking in the green before the opening bell Monday as traders look to extend last month's momentum and await earnings from several major companies later in the week.
The S&P 500 increased 0.4%, the Dow Jones Industrial Average edged up 0.1% and the Nasdaq added 0.6% in premarket activity. The indexes closed Friday's trading session higher.
In October, the S&P 500 rose 2.3%, the Dow inclined 2.5% and the Nasdaq climbed 4.7%.
Last week, President Donald Trump said he would lower tariffs on China to 47% from 57% after concluding trade talks with his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, in South Korea. However, on Sunday, Trump said tech giant Nvidia's ( NVDA ) most advanced chips will be reserved for US companies and kept out of reach of China and other countries, according to Reuters.
Treasury yields were down in premarket action, with the two-year rate retreating 2.2 basis points to 3.58% and the 10-year rate off 1.2 basis points to 4.09%.
The US government shutdown entered its 34th day on Monday. The stoppage, if not resolved, is likely to delay key labor market data originally due this week, including the nonfarm payrolls report for October.
For Monday's economic calendar, the Purchasing Managers' manufacturing index's final reading for October is out at 9:45 am ET, followed by the Institute for Supply Management's manufacturing index for the same month at 10 am.
Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook is scheduled to speak at 2 pm, while San Francisco Fed President Mary Daly speaks earlier at 12 pm.
IDEXX Laboratories ( IDXX ) , BioNTech (BNTX), ON Semiconductor (ON), Loews ( L ) and CNA Financial ( CNA ) are expected to report their latest financial results before the bell, among others. Palantir Technologies ( PLTR ) posts earnings after the markets close.
Advanced Micro Devices ( AMD ) , Shopify ( SHOP ) , McDonald's (MCD), Uber Technologies ( UBER ) , Pfizer ( PFE ) , Spotify ( SPOT ) , Warner Bros. Discovery ( WBD ) and Becton Dickinson ( BDX ) are some of the other major companies due to release their financial statements later in the week.
Shares of SM Energy ( SM ) and Civitas Resources ( CIVI ) advanced 3.1% and 5.8%, respectively, pre-bell as the two companies agreed to merge in an all-stock deal that values the combined entity at about $12.8 billion, including debt.
West Texas Intermediate crude oil slipped 0.6% to $60.63 a barrel before the open. On Sunday, the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries and allies agreed to raise December output by 137,000 barrels per day.
Gold moved 0.5% higher to $4,016 per troy ounce, while bitcoin declined 2.3% to $107,756.
