12:07 PM EDT, 06/25/2024 (MT Newswires) -- The S&P 500 and the Nasdaq Composite were both up in late-morning trading Tuesday thanks in part to a rebound in Nvidia shares following a few down days for the chipmaking giant. Shares of Nvidia were up 4.9%.

In company news, Microsoft ( MSFT ) breached European antitrust rules by bunding its Teams application with core Office 365 and Microsoft ( MSFT ) 365 product suites, the European Union's executive arm said Tuesday. The European Commission informed Microsoft ( MSFT ) of its preliminary view that the company may have given Teams a distribution advantage by not letting customers choose whether they want it when they sign up for Microsoft's ( MSFT ) other software services. Shares of Microsoft ( MSFT ) were up 0.4% near noon.

A federal judge in Brooklyn has rejected a $30 billion settlement between Visa (V), Mastercard ( MA ) , and retailers to cap swipe fees for credit cards after hinting earlier in June that such a ruling could be expected, Bloomberg reported Tuesday. Judge Margo Brodie for the US District Court for the Eastern District of New York ordered the parties to discuss and respond to the ruling by Friday, according to the report. Shares of Visa were down 0.5%, while those of Mastercard ( MA ) were down 0.3%.

Novo Nordisk ( NVO ) secured Chinese regulatory approval for its weight-loss drug for cardiovascular risk reduction, the company said Tuesday. Shares of the company were up 3.8%.

Tesla (TSLA) notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on Monday that it was recalling up to 11,688 Cybertruck vehicles over a possible windshield wiper issue. The company said excessive electrical current may cause the motor controller for the front windshield wiper to fail, which may reduce visibility and increase the risk of a crash. Separately, Tesla also notified the NHTSA that it is recalling up to 11,383 Cybertrucks due to an issue with trunk bed trim sail appliques that could have been "improperly adhered and can loosen." Shares of Tesla were up 2.4%.

Ford Motor ( F ) is recalling 552,188 of its 2014 F-150 trucks in the US due to a sensor issue that may cause the vehicle to unexpectedly downshift to first gear, the NHTSA said. Some of the trucks may experience a loss of signal between the transmission output shaft speed sensor and the powertrain control module, which could cause a downshift regardless of speed, the regulator said. Ford shares were down 1%.

Brookfield (BN) has signed a share purchase agreement with Impala and other shareholders to acquire roughly 53% of the outstanding shares of Neoen, a French renewable energy producer, for 39.90 euros ($42.80) per share, the companies said Tuesday. Also, Bpifrance has agreed to tender all of its shares in Neoen under a tender agreement it signed with Brookfield, the companies said. Brookfield and Neoen expect to receive all regulatory approvals by Q4 and a tender offer is expected to be launched in Q1 of 2025. Brookfield shares were down 0.7%.

Stellantis ( STLA ) will stop producing vehicles in the UK if the government there does not ease sales targets for electric vehicles, Bloomberg reported Tuesday, citing the automaker's regional managing director. Earlier this year, the UK said 22% of each manufacturer's new car sales should be zero-emissions. The target increases to 80% in 2030 and 70% for vans. The targets are unsustainable and would force Stellantis ( STLA ) to enact discounts to meet them due to falling demand for EVs, Maria Grazia Davino reportedly told reporters at an industry event in London. Shares of Stellantis ( STLA ) were up 0.3%.

The Federal Reserve shared a document with other US bank regulators that, if adopted, might ease bank-capital rules relative to their original proposal, particularly for banks with large trading operations, Bloomberg reported Tuesday, citing people familiar with the matter. While the Fed document does not include updated estimates to additional capital levels banks would have to hold, early calculations suggest the increase could be as low as 5%, compared to the 16% originally proposed, according to the report.

Eli Lilly ( LLY ) said Tuesday it will collaborate with OpenAI to use generative AI technology to develop antimicrobials to treat drug-resistance pathogens. Financial details of the collaboration were not disclosed. Eli Lilly ( LLY ) shares were up 1.6%.
