05:34 PM EDT, 03/11/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Abbott Laboratories ( ABT ) is recalling its HeartMate Touch Communication System due to the risk of unexpected pump stop or start, the US Food and Drug Administration said Monday.

The recall covers 1,560 devices in the US distributed from May 7, 2020, through Dec 18, 2023, the FDA said.

The health regulator said there have been eight reported injuries and no reports of death.

The system monitors patients who have an implantable HeartMate 3 Left Ventricular Assist Device.
