02:52 PM EST, 11/05/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Amazon.com ( AMZN ) said Tuesday the Federal Aviation Administration has granted permission to begin flying its new delivery drone MK30.
Amazon ( AMZN ) said its drone-based delivery service was introduced in 2022. MK30 can deliver packages to residential areas with smaller backyards and more densely populated suburbs, and can operate in various weather conditions.
The company said the MK30 delivery service will begin in the Phoenix Metropolitan Area in Arizona. The drones will deploy from the company's facilities next to its same-day delivery site in Tolleson.
The FAA approved "beyond visual line of sight" flying for the drone, Amazon ( AMZN ) said, which is equipped with on-board detect and avoid system.
Amazon ( AMZN ) shares were up nearly 2% in recent trading.
