02:19 PM EDT, 06/04/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Amazon ( AMZN ) on Wednesday announced a $10 billion investment to expand its data center infrastructure in North Carolina amid increased generative artificial intelligence demand.
The e-commerce giant expects the planned investment in Richmond County to create at least 500 high-skilled jobs that include data center engineers and network specialists.
The initiative seeks to support "thousands" of other jobs in the Amazon Web Services data center supply chain, the company said in a blog post.
"Generative AI is driving increased demand for advanced cloud infrastructure and compute power, and our investment will support the future of AI from AWS data centers in the Tar Heel state," Amazon ( AMZN ) said.
Amazon ( AMZN ) said it has invested $12 billion in North Carolina since 2010, where it currently employs about 24,000 full- and part-time workers.
Shares of Amazon ( AMZN ) were up 1% intraday.
AWS and Saudi Arabia's Humain will invest more than $5 billion to build an AI zone in the kingdom, the two said last month.
