12:36 PM EST, 12/03/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Amazon.com's ( AMZN ) Amazon Web Services on Tuesday disclosed plans to build a massive computing system powered by its Trainium artificial intelligence chips.

Amazon's ( AMZN ) cloud computing arm said it was collaborating with Anthropic, the AI startup in which Amazon ( AMZN ) is an investor, to build an ultracluster called Project Rainier.

The cluster will contain "hundreds of thousands of Trainium2 chips" and will be used to support Anthropic in training its AI models.

The company also unveiled the next generation of the Trainium chips called Trainium3.

Trainium3 chips will have four times more performance than the Trainium2 ultraservers, AWS said. The first Trainium3-based instances are expected to be available in late 2025, the company added.
