04:37 PM EDT, 07/19/2024 (MT Newswires) -- American Airlines' ( AAL ) new tentative contract agreement with the union representing 28,000 of its flight attendants is now up for review by its board and ratification by the members.
The union confirmed the tentative contract Friday, calling it a "long overdue agreement" addressing scheduling and other economic necessities. The contract next moves for review by the union's board and executive committee and ratification afterwards, the union said in a press release.
The parties reached the tentative agreement nearly one month after talks temporarily broke down and almost a year after employees authorized a potential strike. The Union authorized a possible walkout in August 2023, but have continued to work on a collective bargaining agreement with the airline aided by a federal mediator.
"We are pleased to have reached a tentative agreement on a new contract with the Association of Professional Flight Attendants," the air carrier said in a statement to MT Newswires. The deal provides union members with immediate financial and quality-of-life improvements, it said, without discussing specific terms.
