08:24 AM EDT, 07/26/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Apple ( AAPL ) was pushed out of the top five smartphone players in China during Q2 as local companies took over the market, market tracker International Data Corporation said Friday.
The iPhone maker saw a 3.1% decline in shipments in the country, while Android competitors posted an overall 11% growth, IDC said. Apple ( AAPL ) was in the top 5 list for nearly four years.
Chinese smartphone company Vivo jumped to first place from fifth in Q1 after releasing new products in the low- to mid-range segment, IDC said. Huawei came in second, followed by Oppo, Honor and Xiaomi, while Apple ( AAPL ) was in sixth place, IDC data showed.
Although Chinese consumers are leaning towards premium products as they tend to use their devices for longer, some "became more budget conscious and leaned towards buying cheaper smartphones amid the softer-than-expected economic recovery," said IDC Research Analyst Jacob Zhu.
