02:52 PM EDT, 07/01/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Apple ( AAPL ) is suing former employee Di Liu for allegedly stealing the company's proprietary information related to the wearable device Vision Pro.
In a lawsuit filed last Tuesday in California's Santa Clara Superior Court, Apple ( AAPL ) said that Liu submitted his resignation citing family and health reasons, and not disclosing that he had actually taken a product design engineer role at Snap (SNAP). This allowed him continued access to proprietary data, which he used to copy thousands of proprietary files to a personal cloud storage account, Apple ( AAPL ) claimed in the lawsuit.
An "overlap between Apple's ( AAPL ) proprietary information" that Liu allegedly stole and Snap's augmented reality products "suggests that Mr. Liu intends to use the Apple's ( AAPL ) Proprietary Information at Snap," the iPhone maker also alleged in the lawsuit.
Apple ( AAPL ) said it aims to recover its proprietary information, prevent Liu from further violating his contractual obligations to the company, and recover damages arising from the alleged misconduct.
Snap, which was not named as a defendant in the lawsuit, said it had reviewed the claims and had "no reason to believe they are related to this individual's employment or conduct at Snap," according to multiple media reports.
Snap did not immediately reply to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
Shares of Apple ( AAPL ) and Snap were up 1.4% and 8.7%, respectively, in recent trading.
