Apple Loses UK Lawsuit Over App Store Commissions
Oct 23, 2025 10:36 AM

01:06 PM EDT, 10/23/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Apple ( AAPL ) lost a London lawsuit on Thursday alleging that the US tech giant has abused its dominant position by charging app developers a 30% commission through its app store

The Competition Appeal Tribunal said in judgement Thursday that Apple ( AAPL ) charged "excessive and unfair prices" in the form of the commission.

The case was originally filed in 2021 by British academic Dr. Rachael Kent on behalf of 36 million class members and went to trial in January of this year.

The tribunal said that the claimants were "entitled to damages" for the total amount of overcharges, without specifying an amount.

Apple ( AAPL ) did not immediately respond to a request to comment from MT Newswires.

Apple ( AAPL ) shares were 0.7% higher in recent trading.
