07:19 AM EST, 01/08/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Apple ( AAPL ) is still not allowed to sell iPhone 16 in Indonesia despite its plan to invest $1 billion in an AirTag manufacturing facility, multiple outlets reported Wednesday.
Indonesia last year prohibited the sale of iPhone 16 for failing to meet requirements that smartphones should contain at least 40% locally made components, Reuters said.
Apple's ( AAPL ) $1 billion plan to build an AirTag factory does not meet the requirement because the AirTag is only an accessory, Bloomberg reported, citing Indonesia's Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita.
Apple ( AAPL ) did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
