02:34 PM EDT, 03/13/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Apple ( AAPL ) said Wednesday that it is in full compliance with a court injunction requiring it to let app developers provide links and buttons to payment options for users outside the App Store.
The company was responding to Epic Games' federal court filing in California, earlier reported by Reuters, that accused Apple ( AAPL ) of violating the injunction.
Apple ( AAPL ) said it has implemented new rules that allow developers to "include in their apps buttons or links with calls to action that direct customers to purchasing mechanisms in addition to IAP [in-app purchases]" and "communicate with customers through points of contact obtained voluntarily from customers through account registration within the app."
"As a result of these changes, developers have the option of informing consumers, both within and outside the app, about alternative purchase mechanisms in addition to IAP," Apple ( AAPL ) said in its Statement of Compliance, a copy of which was sent to MT Newswires.
On Epic Games' complaint that Apple's ( AAPL ) new App Store policies have introduced new restrictions on developers, Apple ( AAPL ) said the court itself had "clarified that Apple ( AAPL ) could still 'take steps to protect users' from new threats created by the injunction's mandate."
Apple ( AAPL ) shares were nearly 1% lower in recent trading.
