ArcelorMittal Plans Large-Scale Maintenance Work at 2 Facilities in France

11:54 AM EDT, 03/10/2025 (MT Newswires) -- ArcelorMittal ( MT ) will temporarily shut down one of the blast furnaces at its steel mill in Dunkirk, France, as part of a broader maintenance program costing over 270 million euros ($292.2 million) that also includes repairs at the company's plant in Fos-sur-Mer, the steelmaker told MT Newswires on Monday.

The 254 million-euro work in Dunkirk includes maintenance on blast furnace number 4, which is expected to be idled about 90 days, along with maintenance on the iron ore sintering line and one of the converters at the steel mill in Q2, the company said in an emailed statement to MT Newswires.

Blast furnace number 3 in Dunkirk remain operational throughout the process, the company said, adding it has been adjusting logistics and supplies at the facility ahead of the project launch to reduce the impact on customers during the repairs.

In Fos-sur-Mer, ArcelorMittal ( MT ) is expecting to spend 18.3 million euros to extend the life of blast furnace number 1. The unit is slated to reopen early in 2026 and will take over for blast furnace number 2 now in production at the French facility, the company said.

Shares of the company were down 4.9% in recent trading.
