PepsiCo chief executive officer Indra Nooyi is stepping down this year, winnowing further the already small number of women running S&P 500 companies.

Of the 339 CEOs that have held the top job at S&P 500 company for at least two years, only 17 were women, about five percent.

Along with Nooyi, HP's Meg Whitman and Sempra Energy's Debra L Reed have also stepped down from their post, making the list to 14.

Here are the women who remain -

Debra Cafaro, Ventas

Debra Cafaro is currently the the chief executive officer of Ventas, a real estate investment trust that owns nearly 1,300 senior housing and healthcare properties. Cafaro was brought in the year 1999 to pull up the company from the slump it had been facing. She has been the longest-serving female CEO of an S&P 500 company.

Mary T Barra, General Motors

Mary T Barra has been the the chief executive officer of General Motors of Canada Limited since January 15, 2014. With Barra in charge, General Motors has aimed to focus on strengthening its core business of building great cars, trucks and crossovers. The auto company is also working on the innovations in the personal mobility field by using connectivity, electrification and autonomous vehicles technologies.

Phebe N Novakovic, General Dynamics Corp

Phebe N Novakovic has been serving as the the chief executive officer of General Dynamics, one of the world's largest defence contractors, since January 1, 2013. Novakovic has been the director of the company since May 2012. She was ranked 48th in the World's Most Powerful Women by Forbes.

Lynn J Good, Duke Energy Corporation

Lynn J Good has been serving as the chief executive officer of Duke Energy, an energy holding company, since 2013. With her in charge, the company focused on customer service and aspire for a cleaner and smarter energy future. Before becoming the CEO, she served as the company's chief financial officer and had earlier led the company's initial development of renewable energy projects.

Marillyn Hewson, Lockheed Martin

Marillyn Hewson has been a part of the global aerospace defence company for the last 35 years and is professionally an industrial engineer. In 2017, Fortune magazine identified Hewson as No 3 on the “50 Most Powerful Women in Business.”

Virginia M Rometty, IBM Corp

Virginia M Rometty, also known as Ginni, has been in the company since 1981 and has the held the title of a chairman and CEO since 2012. Rometty has been responsible for the growth of the overall strategy and business development for Global Services, including advanced services solutions, the services asset strategy and acquisition strategy for the company.

Margaret M Keane, Synchrony Financial

Margaret M Keane has been the chief executive officer of Synchrony Financial since February, 2014 and is also serving as the Director of Allstate Corporation. Synchrony Financial is a consumer financial services company based in the United States.

Heather Bresch, Mylan

Heather Bresch is the current chief executive officer of the pharmaceutical major Mylan and also serves on the company’s board of directors. Bresch joined the company in 1992 as a data-entry clerk. In 2012, she became the pharmaceutical industry’s first female CEO of a Fortune 500 company.

Barbara Rentler, Ross Stores

Barbara Rentler has been the chief executive officer of Ross Stores, a US-based department store company, since June 2014 and has been with the company since 1986 and has served various prominent roles in the company.

Lisa T Su, Advanced Micro Devices

Su is the president and chief executive officer of the semiconductor company and serves on the company’s board of directors. Su joined AMD in January 2012 and was responsible for driving end-to-end business execution of AMD’s products and solutions. Su has bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate degrees in electrical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Su was with IBM for 13 years in various engineering and business leadership positions.

Beth E Mooney, KeyCorp

Beth E Mooney has been the chairman and chief executive officer of the retail banking company, KeyCorp, since May 1, 2011. Mooney, who joined KeyCorp in April 2006 as Vice Chairman, has over 35 years of experience in retail banking, commercial lending and real estate financing.

Mary N Dillon, Ulta Beauty

Mary N Dillon has been the chief executive officer of Ulta Beauty, a chain of beauty stores in the United States, since July 1, 2013. Dillon comes with more than 25 years of experience in the consumer businesses and is known to build brands.

Patricia L Kampling, Alliant Energy Corp

Patricia L Kampling is the chief executive officer of Alliant Energy Corp, a public utility holding company that incorporated in Madison, since April 2012. She is an engineer by profession and holds bachelor degrees in Engineering and Economics from Swarthmore College, an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School.

Susan N Story, American Water Works Company

Susan N Story has been the president and chief executive officer of American Water Works Company, a water services company, since May 9, 2014. Story has been recognised for her work and has been given various awards and honors, including the Sacred Heart Hospital's Presidential Achievement Award.
