10:35 AM EDT, 10/30/2024 (MT Newswires) -- AstraZeneca ( AZN ) said Wednesday that AstraZeneca China President Leon Wang is under investigation and cooperating with a probe by Chinese authorities.

"Our China operations continue under the leadership of the current General Manager of AstraZeneca China," the company said in a statement, adding it plans to "fully cooperate" with the probe if requested.

In September, multiple media outlets reported that five current and former employees of AstraZeneca ( AZN ) were detained in China on suspicion of illegal patient data collection and the importation of an unapproved liver cancer drug.

AstraZeneca ( AZN ) shares were down 4.6% in recent Wednesday trading.
