Babcock & Wilcox Enterprises Recveives Approval to Proceed With AES Indiana Coal-to-Gas Project
Nov 14, 2024 4:52 AM

07:26 AM EST, 11/14/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Babcock & Wilcox Enterprises Inc ( BW ) said Thursday its Thermal division has received approval to proceed with a coal-to-natural gas conversion project at AES Indiana's Petersburg Generating Station. The company said the project is valued at $246 million.

The project is meant to help AES Indiana phase out coal and reduce carbon dioxide emissions at the 1,160-megawatt plant by converting the plant's two coal-fired boilers to use natural gas as fuel.

B&W Thermal will design and install the plant's new natural gas system, air systems and other equipment while Babcock & Wilcox Construction will perform the construction portion of the project. The company's Babcock & Wilcox FPS unit will supply burners, ignitors, controls and other technologies for the project, with completion scheduled for Q1 2027, the company said.
