11:49 AM EDT, 06/18/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Ballard Power Systems ( BLDP ) disclosed a strategic partnership with Vertiv ( VRT ) on Tuesday to adapt hydrogen-powered fuel cells to supply backup electric power for data centers and other critical infrastructures.

The companies said they recently combined an uninterruptible power system made by Vertiv ( VRT ) with two of Ballard's 200-kilowatt fuel cell power modules on a successful proof-of-concept demonstration project at a Vertiv ( VRT ) facility in Delaware, Ohio.

The trial system also included cooling and power conditioning equipment supplied by Ballard, while Vertiv ( VRT ) added the lithium-ion batteries and energy management controllers used for the microgrid and battery energy-storage system.

The companies are scheduled to demonstrate their stand-by power systems at industry conferences beginning Wednesday in Munich, Germany, they said.

Ballard Power ( BLDP ) was trading almost 9% higher late Tuesday morning while Vertiv ( VRT ) shares recently were more than 3%.
