Analysts polled by Capital IQ expected $1.42.

Total revenue for the quarter ended Sept. 30 was $4.65 billion, up from $4.42 billion a year earlier.

Analysts surveyed by Capital IQ expected $4.56 billion.

Separately, Bank of New York Mellon ( BK ) said its board maintained a quarterly dividend of $0.47 per share, payable Nov. 1 to shareholders of record on Oct. 21.
