05:51 PM EDT, 10/14/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Baxter International ( BAX ) said Monday it requested healthcare professionals to limit new starts for dialysis patients as the production at its Marion, North Carolina, facility was impacted by Hurricane Helene.
As a supplier of intravenous fluids and peritoneal dialysis solutions, the company asked to consider new signups only for pediatric patients or others with medically necessary exceptions for the time being.
The company said it activated seven plants across its global network to increase available inventory.
"We do not yet have a timeline for when we expect production to be fully restored to pre-hurricane levels," Baxter added.
Baxter, however, previously said it plans to begin restarting production at its North Carolina facility in phases by the end of this year and is working closely with the US Food and Drug Administration for temporary importation approvals for additional manufacturing sites.
