BMO on The Day Ahead in Canada
Jul 17, 2025 5:07 AM

07:48 AM EDT, 07/17/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Canada's data on May international securities transactions will be released at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, said Bank of Montreal (BMO).

The US dollar (USD)is broadly stronger, with the Canadian dollar (CAD or loonie) weakening about half a cent to C$1.376 early Thursday, noted the bank. This follows United States President Donald Trump's comment late Wednesday that he plans to put tariffs of 10% or 15% on "well over 150 countries."

That would at least provide some clarity in the trade war, but the larger concern is what happens to the much higher reciprocal duties on about two. dozen countries that could take effect Aug. 1, as well as plans for more sectoral duties, including on medicines, added BMO.
