07:13 AM EDT, 09/16/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Boeing ( BA ) and the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers will return to the bargaining table and "resume meetings early next week", the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service, or FMCS, said late Friday.
The mediator has been in contact with both parties for a "mutually acceptable resolution," the FMCS added.
Separately, the strike at Boeing ( BA ) by its union members "could go on for a while" the National Public Radio reported Saturday, citing an interview with union leader Jon Holden.
The jet maker is facing a strike from 33,000 members represented by the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers union, who rejected a 25% wage increase offer from Boeing ( BA ) over four years, the NPR added, citing Holden.
The union's job is "to get an agreement that our members can accept. We're going to continue pushing forward. We have to hear from our members. We have to talk with them about where they're at right now," the NPR quoted Holden as saying during the interview.
"The message was clear that the tentative agreement we reached with IAM leadership was not acceptable to the members," a Boeing ( BA ) spokesperson told MT Newswires in an email. "We remain committed to resetting our relationship with our employees and the union, and we are ready to get back to the table to reach a new agreement."
