Low-cost airline SpiceJet on Monday introduced 14 new domestic flights, in a move aimed at attracting budget-conscious Indian passengers from non-metros and smaller cities.
Gurgaon-based SpiceJet launched direct flights for Pune-Patna, Chennai-Rajahmundry, Hyderabad-Calicut and Bengaluru-Tuticorin sectors.
It has also introduced additional frequencies on Delhi-Patna, Bengaluru-Rajahmundry and Mumbai-Bengaluru sectors, the airline said in a statement.
India is the world's fastest growing domestic aviation market as economic and network expansion have bolstered the sector.
Many Indian carriers have embarked on ambitious expansion plans and are expanding their travel routes to make the most of the untapped aviation growth in smaller towns.
“We are rapidly expanding our fleet with new Boeing 737 aircraft and Q400 regional turboprops. This means addition of new routes and destinations for our customers with non-stop flights,” Shilpa Bhatia, SpiceJet's chief sales and revenue officer said in a statement.
The airline has been pitching for more flights to non- metros and smaller cities from major airports in the country.
Starting July, passengers from the relatively small towns like Rajahmundry, Patna, Tuticorin and Calicut can now also easily travel to a host of other cities both on SpiceJet’s domestic as well as international network.
