07:33 AM EDT, 06/09/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Canada Nickel ( CNIKF ) on Monday said the Ontario provincial government has recognized its Crawford Nickel Sulphide Project, one of the world's largest nickel reserves, as one of five priority nation building initiatives.
The company separately announced a collaboration with Australia's NetCarb.
The province last week also flagged additional provincial funding for the sector, such as the $500 million Critical Minerals Processing Fund, and the nearly $3.1 billion in loans, grants, scholarships and other funding to support Indigenous ownership and partnership in critical mineral development.
Once operational, the Crawford Project is expected to also become one of Canada's largest, carbon storage facilities, the company said.
Separately, Canada Nickel ( CNIKF ) reported a strategic partnership with Australia-based NetCarb to jointly commercialize NetCarb's carbon sequestration technology.
"While Canada Nickel's ( CNIKF ) proprietary IPT Carbonation process provides a carbon storage capacity facilitating as much as 1.5 million tonnes of annual CO2 storage capacity, the NetCarb process has the potential to increase the CO2 storage capacity of Crawfords tailings by a further magnitude to 10-15 million tonnes of annual carbon storage capacity, representing a magnitude scale leap forward and the third generation of mineral-based carbon sequestration," said Canada Nickel ( CNIKF ) Chief Executive Mark Selby.
The two companies are collaborating to secure government funding to upscale the technology using material from Canada Nickel's ( CNIKF ) project portfolio.
