Canadian Pacific Kansas City Locks Out Teamsters Members
Aug 23, 2024 12:33 AM

05:09 AM EDT, 08/22/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Canadian Pacific Kansas City ( CP ) said Thursday it has locked out employees who are members of the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference over an ongoing labor dispute.

The railway company said it has been bargaining with the union over a new contract for nearly a year but a negotiated outcome "is not within reach." The company said it proposed binding arbitration as a way forward.

Canadian Pacific Kansas City ( CP ) said it has implemented a structured shutdown of its train operations across Canada.

In its own statement, Teamsters Canada claimed the company is "willing to compromise rail safety and tear families apart to earn an extra buck."

"Over the past several days, the Teamsters have put forward multiple offers, none of which were seriously considered by either company," the union said. "The main obstacles to reaching an agreement remain the companies' demands, not union proposals."
