03:21 PM EDT, 03/11/2026 (MT Newswires) -- CMS Energy's ( CMS/PB ) Michigan unit, Consumers Energy ( CMS/PB ), unveiled the broad outline of its upcoming long-term power plan, proposing two new natural-gas plants totaling 1.5 gigawatts and more than 13 gigawatts of new renewable and storage capacity over the next two decades.
The mix of gas, solar, wind, and battery projects, part of an Integrated Resource Plan expected to be filed with regulators in June, would improve grid reliability, support Michigan's clean-energy targets, and help lower customer bills, the utility said Wednesday in a statement.
The gas plants would be built at existing sites, including the Karn Generating Facility in Bay County and Thetford Township in Genesee County.
