02:21 PM EDT, 05/09/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Constellation Energy ( CEG ) Chief Executive Joseph Dominguez said in the company's Q1 earnings call Thursday that the uprates at its nuclear plants will eventually "add up to 1,000 megawatts or perhaps more of clean, firm power to the grid."
The company is increasing megawatts by utilizing uprates to increase the capacity of existing equipment, Dominguez told analysts. The company is also exploring opportunities to do this at other facilities, the Chief Executive said.
Uprates at plants in Byron and Braidwood, Illinois, will add 160 megawatts in the next few years, he added.
The company shares were up 1.6% in recent trading.
