eBay India signs MoU with GJEPC, to reach 300 manufacturing hubs of gems and jewellery in India

eBay India recently tied up with Gems and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC). E-Commerce numbers as far as the jewellery sales and exports have been quite positive. Vidmay Naini, Country Manager at eBay India-CBT, discussed about the company's performance.

“We are a market place which provides access to 190 countries and our endeavour is to build an ecosystem where each and every MSME in this sector sells to the world. In this endeavour we have been tying up with various organisations and GJEPC is one of the foremost organisations in this sector,” he said.

He said because of this tie-up, all members of GJEPC have now access to 190 countries and 190 markets.

Naini said it also provides a collaboration where eBay provides the technical know-how, market insights and the policies of how to sell to the world. This collaboration also enables eBay to reach all the 300 manufacturing hubs of gems and jewellery in India.

In terms of E-Commerce platform and retail market, he said, “Growth in the E-Commerce has been robust. eBay has been beneficiary of this particular robust growth in sales. E-Commerce penetration towards total retail has moved up from around 14 percent to close to 34 percent in three months during the lockdown. It continues to hold strong. We have seen significant benefit coming there.”

“We have seen very robust growth last year from India.”

On new foreign trade policy, eBay has been working with various stakeholders and have made 13 specific recommendations which is applicable from the industry point of view.

“There are three broad recommendations that we have made, one is digitisation and automation, second is creation of awareness of E-Commerce retail sales, third is process simplification on the custom’s side and fourth is on the benefits that the E-Commerce retail exporters get at par with potential offline exporters.”.
