Edison International Shares Fall as LA Wildfire Rages On
Jan 8, 2025 12:21 PM

02:54 PM EST, 01/08/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Edison International ( EIX ) shares fell more than 13% in recent Wednesday trading as wildfires raged on in Los Angeles.

Edison's Southern California Edison is the main power utility for the areas directly surrounding the city of Los Angeles and nearly 70,000 of the company's customers were out of power as of Wednesday morning. However, the company has turned off power for nearly 157,000 customers, or 3.1% of its total customer base of 5 million, according to the company's power outage page.

The company is also considering shutting off power to more than double that amount -- over 430,000 customers -- as a result of the wildfires, the power outage page showed.

The fires began during an extreme wind event on Tuesday and have expanded ever since.
