06:56 AM EST, 01/09/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Edison International ( EIX ) said late Wednesday that power outages in Southern California could continue for several days as the region grapples with extreme weather conditions and multiple active wildfires.
The Palisades Fire began Tuesday morning and is outside Southern California Edison's service area, the company said.
The company said the Eaton Fire, which ignited Tuesday afternoon, is within its service area, near Eaton Canyon on the east side, where it operates transmission facilities. In response to the fire, tt added that Southern California Edison de-energized power lines west of Eaton Canyon through its Public Safety Power Shutoff program.
The Hurst Fire, which began Tuesday evening, started within the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power's service area, but Southern California Edison has transmission facilities near the reported ignition site and is also reviewing this incident.
As of Jan. 8, the company said 413,639 customers are without power, adding that the Public Safety Power Shutoff affected 183,186, while 230,453 are affected by the ongoing windstorm.
Additionally, 453,872 customers are under a Public Safety Power Shutoff watch but still had power as of 4 p.m. PT on Wednesday.
