03:46 PM EDT, 08/29/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Exxon Mobil ( XOM ) and QatarEnergy joint venture Golden Pass LNG has asked the US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission for an extension to complete the $10 billion liquefied natural gas export facility in Texas until November 2029 due to a change in primary contractors, Golden Pass said in a Wednesday letter to the regulator.
Golden Pass currently has until Nov. 30, 2026, to complete the project.
Golden Pass also filed a request with the US Department of Energy's Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management for an extension of its export authorizations to begin commercial operations from its terminal facilities until March 31, 2027, according to the letter to the FERC.
"Our goal is to produce first LNG around the end of 2025 with commercial operations following thereafter," a spokesman for Golden Pass said in a Thursday email to MT Newswires. "Consistent with our previous regulatory extensions, the extensions we have requested build in time for contingencies to account for uncertainties outside of the company's control that can arise when constructing a project of this scale."
Exxon Mobil ( XOM ), QatarEnergy and the FERC did not immediately respond to requests for comment by MT Newswires.
