06:55 PM EDT, 07/30/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The Federal Communications Commission narrowed a provision in Dish Network's proposed restructuring deal that the agency said would have improperly allowed corporate bondholders to be repaid from a $2.4 billion fund earmarked for contractors that built its 5G network, Bloomberg reported Thursday.
The FCC is modifying terms of the fund to explicitly exclude any claims from EchoStar (SATS) or its subsidiaries, Joel Taubenblatt, chief of the FCC Wireless Telecommunications Bureau, said, according to the report.
The fund, created July 28 with proceeds from Dish's spectrum license sale to AT&T and SpaceX, is meant to compensate contractors that built the wireless network rather than those that financed EchoStar, the FCC said, the report added.
The opinion followed concerns from Dish creditors that the trust could be exhausted if bondholders were allowed to draw from it, the report said.
